Fire Damper and Smoke Damper Repair and Installation
As part of LSS Life Safety Services®’ (LSS) goal to not only meet but exceed the needs of our clients we provide damper repair services as a complement to our fire and smoke damper inspection services. Who better to perform the repairs on your facility’s fire and smoke dampers than the leader in Fire and Smoke Damper Inspections?
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states:
- NFPA 80 (Fire Dampers) – Section 19.5.3 “If the damper is not operable, repairs shall begin
without delay.”
- NFPA 105 (Smoke Dampers) – Section 6.6.3 “If the damper is not operable, repairs shall begin as soon as possible.”
LSS Life Safety Services®’ technicians not only are familiar with the multitude of fire and smoke dampers that are in existence through their detailed damper inspection experience but have been through extensive in-house training as well as damper repair and smoke damper actuator repair training through major manufacturers, such as Belimo, Lloyds, Ruskin and Greenheck. LSS Life Safety Services® Damper Repair services include, but are not limited to:
- Smoke Damper and Combination Fire and Smoke Damper Actuator Replacement / Retrofit.
- Including Replacement and Retrofit of Electric and Pneumatic Actuators.
- Replacement and Installation of Dampers.

- Additional Smoke Damper Repairs could include:
- Adjustments to the smoke damper linkage to allow damper closure.
- Make adjustments to internal components to allow damper closure.
- Repairs to fire dampers that include items such as:
- Making adjustments to fire damper tracks that are binding and prohibiting damper closure.
- Removing screws that are located in fire damper tracks that are prohibiting fire damper closure.
- Repairing broken tabs on fire dampers.
The final report detailing the fire and smoke damper repair project will include the following information to have for company records and provide your Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ):
- A digital photo of every damper “open”, “closed”, and “reopened” demonstrating the success of the repair.
- A report listing the location of the damper, the date of the repair, and re-inspection, and if a new actuator or damper has been installed the make and model of the smoke damper actuator or the new fire damper or smoke damper installed.
